SD-WAN and multi-site network checklist
If you connect several locations, SD-WAN can improve reliability and sometimes lower cost. These answers show whether it fits and what it must support.
- How many locations do you connect, and how does each connect today?Broadband, fiber, MPLS, wireless or LTE.
- What is prompting the change?Outages, cost, slow cloud apps, a new site or an expiring contract.
- Which applications are mission-critical?Phones, video, ERP, point of sale, file sharing or a line-of-business system.
- Which cloud services do you rely on?Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure, Google, Salesforce or others.
- What firewalls are in place, and who manages them?In-house staff, an IT provider or nobody in particular.
- Are you already looking at specific products?For example Meraki, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Versa or VeloCloud.
- When do your current network contracts end?Carrier and equipment contracts can have different dates.
Rough answers are fine, and "not sure" is a useful answer. Please don't send account numbers, passwords or full bills; if we need to look at a contract, we'll arrange a safe way to share it.
